American Surveying Consultants was established in 1978 and is licensed in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota with a corporate office in Chicago, Illinois and primary branch offices in Dixon and Peoria, Illinois and Wixom, Michigan. We maintain a professional staff of 40 to 50 personnel.

Specialization in the growing field of Professional Surveying allows our firm to undertake large and complex projects. The firm was founded on the premise that surveying was a growing field expanding in many directions. The equipment and methods available for measurement, storage, retrieval and computation of data is changing tremendously. With these new developments, surveying is expanding beyond the traditional engineering sciences to include other physical sciences such as geodesy, geology, geophysics, agriculture, hydrology and oceanography.

The NAVSTAR Global Positioning System (GPS), remote sensing, inertial surveying, electronic distance, angular measurements, and high density laser scanning are examples of recent technological advances experienced by the profession. ASC is a pioneer in Global Positioning System (GPS) Technology. ASC purchased GPS Receivers in the mid-1980's and now owns sixteen (16) Trimble Dual Frequency Receivers, making our crews even more efficient. Our data is processed with Trimble GPS Software and SMARTGPS. We developed the network analysis software, SMARTGPS, which is currently being used by the Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois Departments of Transportation. We are considered leaders in this technology.

We also offer High Density Laser Scanning, the latest innovation to the surveying and mapping profession. This technology uses Light and Detection Ranging (LiDAR) to collect 3D images of features previously too difficult or impossible to measure.
